While the Chandler Police Department has many divisions to support its duties and inner workings, the most prominently visible is easily the Field Operations Division. This division encompasses all the field activities of the CPD and is overseen by an Assistant Chief. The Field Operations Division is composed of various units as follows:
- Patrol Officers – responsible for protection of life and property, maintaining public order, emergency response, and enforcement of ordinances and laws. Officers are each assigned to specific geographical areas known as beats.
- Motorcycle Unit – Patrol Officers that primarily respond to traffic matters including accidents, traffic control and DUI violations.
- Bicycle Units – Patrol officers that primarily target street level crimes including narcotics, liquor and curfew violations. They also frequently are an instrumental element in providing protection at city sponsored events.
- Field Training Unit – Officers who, along side their regular duties, provide training to new recruits in the field.
- Canine Unit – Made of handler and canine teams, this unit can be called to assist in building searches, field and area searches, narcotics detection, crowd control assistance, and suspect apprehension.
- Park Ranger Unit – responsible for patrol services in the city’s park areas and supplementing patrol for the downtown area.
